The trailer of director K.V. Kathirvelu’s upcoming Tamil film Singaram, starring Yogi Babu in the lead role, was released on Friday, offering a glimpse of a story that combines comedy with a hard-hitting examination.

The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 30, 2026.

Known for his work on Rajavamsam, Kathirvelu directs the comedy and family entertainer, which follows Singaram, a member of the nomadic Narikuravar community, as he confronts the challenges of marginalisation and attempts to change the circumstances of his people.

The trailer introduces Singaram and his family as they travel from place to place, selling beads and birds they have hunted. Their journey takes an unexpected turn when they arrive in a village they initially believe to be peaceful.

However, the community soon encounters hostility and humiliation. The trailer highlights the difficulties faced by people who lack government-recognised identity documents, leaving them unable to access welfare benefits intended for economically disadvantaged sections of society. The villagers’ treatment of the group further exposes the social barriers they face.

Amid these circumstances, Singaram is advised that gaining power may be the only way to challenge the injustice confronting his community. The film follows his efforts to acquire that power, assert his rights and reshape the way society perceives people like him.

While Yogi Babu is widely recognised for his distinctive comic performances in Tamil cinema, Singaram appears to place him in a role that combines humour with a broader social message. The narrative centres on the protagonist’s struggle against oppression and his determination to secure self-respect and greater control over his own life.

The film’s screenplay reportedly balances comedic sequences with emotionally charged moments, exploring the everyday obstacles faced by marginalised communities and the courage required to challenge entrenched discrimination.

The supporting cast includes Vela Ramamoorthy, M.S. Bhaskar, Maria Vincent, Charms, Aarthi Ganesh, Manobala, Kalki, Marimuthu, Padava Gopi, Sendrayan, T.S.R., Deepa Shankar, Sabitha Rai, Java Sundaresan and K.M. Ganeshkar.

Singaram is produced by A.S. Ramana Balaji and Padmavathi Gandhi under the banner of Raack Productions. Sam C.S. has composed the music, while cinematography is handled by Prasanna S. Kumar. Lawrence Kishore is responsible for editing, and Gururaj has overseen the film’s art direction.

With its focus on social exclusion, access to welfare and the pursuit of dignity, Singaram aims to combine mainstream entertainment with a story about an individual’s struggle to challenge the circumstances imposed on his community.
