Rukmini Vasanth to Play Thara in ‘Kanam’ Director Shree Karthick’s Next Tamil Film

Known for her performance in the pan-India blockbuster Kantara: Chapter 1, Rukmini will headline the yet-to-be-titled project alongside Dev Ramnath and Vinayak Vaithianathan, who will essay pivotal roles.

The film marks the actress’s first collaboration with Karthick, who made his directorial debut with Kanam, known as Oke Oka Jeevitham in Telugu. The film combined a time-travel premise with the emotional story of a mother and son.

Announcing the collaboration on X, Karthick expressed his excitement about working with Rukmini and described the upcoming project as an adventurous, heartwarming film. He also suggested that the story would leave a lasting impression on audiences.

The makers revealed Rukmini’s casting through an announcement video that introduces her character, Thara. The video follows Karthick, Dev Ramnath and Vinayak Vaithianathan as they work towards finalising the character before an unexpected notification reveals the actress’s involvement.

The film is being produced by Madboys Entertainment and Siruni Cine Corporation, with Saikrishna Gadwal serving as co-producer.

In a distinctive promotional approach, Madboys Entertainment has also developed a fictionalised docu-drama series exclusively for Instagram. Drawing inspiration from the team's experiences, challenges and setbacks over the past 18 months, the series blends real-life elements with dramatised storytelling. Across nine episodes so far, the project has built towards the announcement of Rukmini as Thara.

Further details about the film, including its title, release date and other cast members, are yet to be announced.
