Tom Cruise has opened up about the physical challenges he faced while learning to fly fighter jets, revealing that he became sick during his first flight in an A-4 before experiencing the same problem while filming.

During an appearance on *The Jennifer Hudson Show*, Cruise recalled his first experience flying a fighter jet and admitted that he "puked his guts out" while piloting an A-4.

The experience, however, did not discourage the actor. When asked whether becoming sick had put him off flying, Cruise explained that he instead decided he needed to adapt because he did not want to continue getting sick during flights.

That challenge resurfaced when he began filming *Top Gun*. Cruise said he became sick again on his first day flying in an F-14. Despite that, he completed two more flights that same day, describing the experience that followed as "magnificent."

The conversation also touched on the upcoming third instalment of the *Top Gun* franchise. Cruise confirmed that his character, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, will return, while remaining deliberately vague about the film's story.

"Maverick's going to be in it. There's going to be fighter jets. It's going to be cool," Cruise said, offering little else about the project.

The original *Top Gun* was released in 1986 and was directed by Tony Scott. The film was inspired by Ehud Yonay's article "Top Guns", published in *California* magazine in 1983.

Cruise starred as Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a young US Navy aviator selected to train at the Navy's Fighter Weapons School alongside his radar intercept officer, Lieutenant Nick "Goose" Bradshaw. The film also featured Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer and Tom Skerritt.

More than three decades later, Cruise returned as Maverick in *Top Gun: Maverick*, released in 2022. Val Kilmer also reprised his role, with the sequel becoming another major chapter in the franchise.

With a third film now in development, Cruise's latest comments offer a glimpse into what audiences can expect, even as details about the project remain under wraps.
