New Year, Double Madness: Rohit Shetty Announces ‘Golmaal 5’ for January 8, 2027

One of Indian cinema’s most lucrative and enduring comedy franchises is ready to make a comeback. Filmmaker Rohit Shetty officially announced the fifth installment of his comic universe, Golmaal 5, locking in a theatrical release date of January 8, 2027. Arriving nearly a decade after Golmaal Again (2017), the announcement sets up the ensemble laugh riot as the first mega tentpole of 2027.

Shetty shared the news alongside an initial motion teaser, accompanied by a caption that leaned into the franchise’s trademark family-oriented appeal, “LAUGHTER, FUN, JOY, HAPPINESS AND FAMILY... BAS, NOTHING ELSE ❤️❤️❤️ 8TH JAN 2027 🙏” The makers followed up with an official tagline that captures the tone: “2027 is all set to begin with fun, laughter and a whole lot of Golmaal! Get ready for the madness as Golmaal 5 arrives in cinemas on 8th January 2027! New year. New madness. Same Golmaal!”

Leading the ensemble once again is Ajay Devgn as Gopal, anchoring the madcap troupe alongside franchise regulars Arshad Warsi as Madhav, Tusshar Kapoor as Lucky, Shreyas Talpade as Laxman, and Kunal Kemmu as Laxman. In a significant boost to the lineup, Akshay Kumar joins the franchise for the very first time, reuniting with director Rohit Shetty after Sooryavanshi to bring a fresh dynamic to the signature chaos. Adding a major dose of nostalgia, Sharman Joshi makes his long-awaited return nearly two decades after the original 2006 cult classic Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, answering years of fan anticipation to see the original crew back together. Rounding out the powerhouse comic roster, the ensemble is further bolstered by franchise veteran Johnny Lever alongside Priyamani.

For an outfit traditionally anchored to Diwali festival windows, where Golmaal Returns (2008), Golmaal 3 (2010), and Golmaal Again (2017) all premiered to major box-office hauls, the January 8, 2027 date marks a shift in scheduling strategy. By targeting the post-New Year corridor, the production aims to monopolize the early winter cinematic calendar with an uncontested, mass-appeal entertainer.
