Made on a modest ₹2 crore budget, writer-director Vishal Chaturvedi’s devotional drama Hanuman Ansh has completed an unprecedented box-office run, crossing ₹300 crore in worldwide gross collections.

In an era dominated by mega-budget spectacles and aggressive marketing blitzes, an unassuming devotional drama made on a shoestring budget of just ₹2 crore has scripted one of the most astonishing box-office turnarounds in Indian cinema history. Written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Ansh has officially crossed the monumental ₹300 crore mark in worldwide gross collections. The feat delivers a historic return on investment that has left trade analysts, exhibitors, and studio executives astounded.

When the film quietly debuted in theatres on August 7, 2026, it barely registered on the commercial radar. Opening to a dismal ₹10 lakh on Day 1, it struggled to touch ₹1.5 crore across its first two weeks, with its theatrical footprint shrinking to around 30 screens at its lowest ebb. Instead of quietly disappearing, a relentless wave of organic word-of-mouth and emotionally charged audience testimonials on social media sparked unprecedented curiosity. Visuals of deeply moved audiences, combined with the grassroots virality of composer Dhirendra Mulkalwar’s soulful score, triggered an extraordinary domino effect that began packing theatres across the country.

By its fourth week, the film was commanding unprecedented holdovers, raking in over ₹60 crore net per week domestically. As single screens and multiplex chains scrambled to add shows, domestic collections vaulted past ₹280 crore gross. The phenomenon went global when prominent banner Hombale Films stepped in to handle overseas distribution on September 11. Strong initial numbers from key diaspora markets added over ₹20 crore internationally, officially pushing its global tally past the ₹300.25 crore threshold.

Unlike modern mythological projects weighed down by heavy visual effects, Hanuman Ansh draws its strength from emotional intimacy and grounded spiritual biography. Headlined by Shobhinaw Satya alongside Vihaan Shedge, Chandan K Anand, Purnima Tiwari, and Anil Rastogi, the narrative follows the early life and pilgrimage of Uttarakhand’s revered saint Baba Neem Karoli, born Lakshman Narayan Sharma. Grieving the loss of his mother, the young protagonist sets out across North India seeking answers to life, mortality, and suffering, a journey that eventually shapes his path toward profound spiritual devotion and universal compassion.

Delivering financial returns exceeding 150 times its initial investment, the success represents a watershed moment for independent, low-budget filmmaking. Backed by three women producers who initially pooled ₹60 lakh each, the core team had previously resorted to grassroots driving campaigns between tier-2 and tier-3 cities just to convince theatre owners to retain their prints. Today, having outlasted massive commercial juggernauts and initiated plans for a cinematic trilogy, Hanuman Ansh stands as definitive proof that authentic emotional connection remains the ultimate currency at the box office.
