Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday condemned the firing incident involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai, warning that those responsible for disturbing law and order in the state would face strict action.
Describing the incident as deeply concerning and condemnable, Shinde said the safety of Mumbai’s residents remained the government’s top priority, irrespective of whether they were celebrities or ordinary citizens.
Speaking to the media, Shinde said he had spoken with the Mumbai Police Commissioner, who had formed several teams to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack. He added that the authorities would respond firmly to the perpetrators.
“Our current priority is to keep Mumbai and its citizens safe. Whether it is a celebrity or an ordinary citizen, ensuring their safety is the responsibility of both the police and the government. There will be no laxity in this regard, and no gang, whoever they may be, will be spared,” Shinde said.
The Deputy Chief Minister also referred to the Mumbai Police’s crackdown on organised crime during the 1990s, signalling a firm approach towards criminal gangs.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when three motorcycle-borne men allegedly opened fire at Tiger Shroff’s car in the Juhu area of Mumbai. The actor reportedly escaped unharmed, while his driver sustained injuries.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to investigate the shooting immediately and take strict action against those found responsible.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) expressed deep concern over the attack, arguing that it was part of a wider pattern of security concerns affecting people in the film industry.
In a post on X, the association questioned the safety of ordinary residents in the city, asking: “Today it is Tiger Shroff. Who is next? When a celebrity is not safe in the heart of Mumbai, how can an ordinary Mumbaikar feel safe?”
Police are continuing their investigation to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the shooting.
