Veteran actor Raza Murad has paid tribute to Nana Patekar, remembering him as a compassionate individual whose generosity extended beyond the film industry to struggling farmers and underpaid Marathi theatre artists.
Recalling his personal association with Patekar, Murad said he visited the actor's residence in Matunga every year during Ganesh Chaturthi. He said he could not make the customary visit this year as Patekar had celebrated the festival at his farmhouse in Pune.
Murad praised Patekar's contrasting yet equally powerful on-screen and off-screen personality, describing him as an intense, versatile performer who remained grounded despite achieving considerable success in Indian cinema.
The veteran actor also highlighted Patekar's philanthropic contributions, claiming that he donated a substantial portion of his earnings to support underprivileged farmers and struggling Marathi theatre performers.
Describing Patekar as a courageous and big-hearted individual, Murad said his commitment to helping others reflected the actor's character beyond his professional achievements.
Murad further recalled that fame had done little to change Patekar's outlook on life. He described the late actor as a simple person at heart who remained dedicated to the welfare and upliftment of others.
Known for his powerful performances and versatility, Patekar established a prominent presence in both Hindi and Marathi cinema. His career spanned several decades, earning him recognition for portraying complex characters across a range of genres.
Following reports of his demise, several prominent personalities from the Indian film industry, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hema Malini, Raj Babbar, Anupam Kher, Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi, were reported to have paid tribute to the actor and acknowledged his contribution to Indian cinema.
The Padma Shri recipient reportedly passed away on October 8, 2026, at the age of 75. According to reports cited in the original account, he was found unconscious at his residence in Goa after experiencing severe chest discomfort.
