Jackie Shroff remembers Lata Mangeshkar on 98th birth anniversary: Always in our hearts

Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff remembered legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar on her birth anniversary, sharing a nostalgic tribute to the iconic voice of Indian cinema.

Jackie took to social media to share a video montage featuring rare and memorable photographs of Lata Mangeshkar from different stages of her life. The tribute was accompanied by her much-loved song Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai.

Sharing the montage, Jackie wrote, “Lata ji Always in our hearts,” along with the hashtag #LataMangeshkar.

Lata Mangeshkar was born on September 28, 1929, and went on to become one of the most influential playback singers in the history of Indian cinema.

Her career spanned several decades and saw her lend her voice to thousands of songs across multiple Indian languages.

Born into a family deeply rooted in music, Lata was the eldest of five siblings, including legendary singer Asha Bhosle, Meena Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a respected classical singer and theatre personality.

Lata began performing at a young age. Following her father's death in 1942, she took on the responsibility of supporting her family when she was just 13.

Over the course of her extraordinary career, Lata became fondly known as Lata Didi and the “Nightingale of India”.

Her voice became an integral part of some of Hindi cinema's most memorable songs, including Aayega Aanewala from Mahal, Aaja Re Pardesi from Madhumati, Lag Jaa Gale from Woh Kaun Thi?, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya from Mughal-e-Azam and Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh from Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai.

Lata Mangeshkar passed away in Mumbai on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92, after being hospitalised with COVID-19 and later developing complications.

Jackie's tribute comes on a day when fans and members of the Indian film industry continue to remember the legendary singer and the immense musical legacy she left behind.
