Veteran actor Anupam Kher has taken on a 35-foot indoor rock-climbing wall at a mall in Raleigh, North Carolina, turning the challenge into a reflection on self-belief and overcoming hesitation.

The 71-year-old actor shared a video of the climb on Instagram and revealed that he initially questioned whether he could make it to the top after watching several people attempt the wall without completing the climb.

However, encouragement from his instructor Herman convinced Kher to give it a shot. The experience, he said, reminded him of his childhood in Shimla, where he grew up climbing hills.

“Sometimes, looking up at a challenge, we begin to decide what we cannot do before we have even tried,” Kher wrote, describing the moment he decided to attempt the wall despite his age.

He explained that while a safety harness protected him during the climb, the physical effort and uncertainty remained his own responsibility.

“Being secured by a harness did not take away the effort or the hesitation. I still had to make each move myself. Just with my bare hands and feet! No other support,” he wrote.

Kher said reaching the top gave him a sense of accomplishment and made him reflect on abilities that self-doubt can sometimes prevent people from exploring.

“When I reached the top, I felt a wonderful sense of achievement. I had given myself a chance to discover what I was still capable of. That is called the triumph of human spirit!” he added.

The actor further wrote that confidence does not necessarily make difficult challenges easier, but can provide the motivation needed to begin and continue when things become difficult.

“Today, at 71, I came down from that wall with a little more faith in myself and my capabilities. We owe ourselves that chance,” Kher said.

The video shows the actor steadily making his way up the indoor wall, using his hands and feet to navigate the various holds while secured by a harness. He eventually reaches the top of the 35-foot structure.

Actress Parineeti Chopra reacted to the post, writing, “Love this sir!”

Meanwhile, Kher is currently taking his stage play *Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane* to audiences across the United States and Canada.
