Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan, who was pursuing engineering before making his film debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama, once found himself in trouble after his mother caught him playing video games at a parlour.

The amusing anecdote was shared by Kartik’s mother during an appearance on comedian Kapil Sharma’s show, where she recalled the lengths she went to in order to ensure that her son remained focused on his studies during his board examination year.

According to her, she had instructed Kartik’s coaching teacher to inform her whenever he missed a class. When she learnt that he had been absent one day, she decided to follow him and discovered that he had gone to a video game parlour instead of attending his lessons.

Recalling her reaction, she said, “Itna gussa aaya ki kya uthaa ke maar dun, phir maine sandal pehna tha, wahi utara.” She explained that she was so angry that she took off her sandal and hit him with it.

Kartik’s mother also revealed that she had initially hoped her son would pursue a conventional career as a doctor or an engineer and was not particularly pleased when he landed his first film role in Luv Ranjan’s Pyaar Ka Punchnama.

“Main chahti thi doctor ya engineer bane. 8–10 saal mein thok peet ke engineering karwai ki degree to le le,” she said, explaining that she had spent years pushing him towards engineering, hoping he would at least complete his degree.

She further recalled setting aside her own professional commitments and moving to Mumbai to support Kartik’s education. She said she would stay with him in the city and encourage him to complete his studies.

During the conversation, Kartik’s mother shared another amusing memory involving one of his examinations. She recalled accompanying him to an exam and asking him afterwards how it had gone.

His response, she told Kapil Sharma and the audience, was unexpected: “Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 ki script likh ke aaya hun!”

The remark offered a glimpse into the actor’s growing interest in films even while he was expected to concentrate on academics.

Kartik eventually made his Bollywood debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama in 2011, earning recognition for his performance in the romantic comedy. He later returned in the sequel, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, released in 2015, before going on to establish himself as a prominent name in Hindi cinema.

His mother’s anecdotes capture the contrast between the career she had envisioned for him and the path he ultimately chose, offering a light-hearted look at the early years of an actor who went on to pursue his ambitions in the film industry.
