Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Nabin has accused the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation of being sustained by foreign funding and donations, while asserting that attempts to replicate what he described as a system.
In an exclusive interview, Nabin said those seeking to mobilise groups of people to create such a system in the country would ultimately fail.
“Those who attempt to replicate here what has been done in other countries, by gathering groups of people to create a ‘mob-based system’, will never see their designs succeed,” he said.
Nabin Says Youth Support Development and National Security
Emphasising the role of young people in shaping the country's future, the BJP president said India's youth remained committed to development while staying connected to the nation's cultural values.
He also maintained that young people were equally concerned about national security and the preservation of India's cultural heritage.
“I have always maintained that the youth of this nation stand with development; they are deeply rooted in the country's cultural values. Alongside development, they remain fully committed to the nation's security and its cultural heritage,” Nabin said.
He added that attempts to mislead young people or steer them away from these priorities would not succeed.
BJP Chief Questions Congress's Claims on National Unity
Nabin also questioned the Congress leadership's claims of promoting national unity, accusing it of associating with groups he described as the “tukde-tukde gang”.
He argued that the Congress could not credibly claim to unite the country while maintaining such alleged associations.
“Every time they have attempted such a thing, they have faced a humiliating defeat. How can those who align themselves with the ‘tukde-tukde gang’ claim to be about ‘uniting’ the country, and expect the youth to stand with them?” he said.
Taking aim at the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Nabin questioned whether an organisation that he alleged was sustained by foreign funding and donations could influence the country's political narrative.
Rajiv Gandhi Foundation's FCRA Licence Cancelled in 2022
The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation is an India-registered non-governmental organisation. In October 2022, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs cancelled its licence under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) following an investigation by an inter-ministerial committee.
The foundation had faced scrutiny over allegations relating to contributions from foreign sources and the flow of funds. The licence cancellation followed the committee's examination of these matters.
Nabin's remarks come against the backdrop of the BJP's criticism of the Congress over its political positions and the foundation's foreign funding-related scrutiny.
