A man who had returned from Singapore to attend a family wedding was allegedly shot dead by his neighbour following a parking dispute in Haryana's Faridabad district, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on Friday, the occasion of Dhanteras, in Sector 21C. The deceased was identified as Paramjit Dhankar, who had returned to Faridabad just two days earlier.
According to police, the accused, identified as Mohan alias Monu Sharma, allegedly opened fire with his licensed pistol during an argument, firing approximately 15 to 16 rounds. Eight to nine bullets reportedly struck Paramjit, killing him.
Surajkund Station House Officer Prahlad Kumar said Paramjit lived on the first floor of house number 641 with his wife and two children. He was employed with a major company and had been residing in Singapore for work.
Originally from Hisar, Paramjit had returned to attend his nephew's wedding, scheduled for November 24.
Parking Dispute Escalates Into Fatal Shooting
According to the police account, Paramjit returned home from the gym at around 8 p.m. when an argument over parking broke out with Mohan, who lives on the third floor of the same building.
The disagreement allegedly escalated, prompting Mohan to open fire on Paramjit.
Police said tensions had reportedly existed between the two families for some time. Around five days before the shooting, the accused had allegedly used abusive language towards Paramjit's son.
Following the incident, the accused reportedly fled the scene along with his family members.
Police Launch Search for Accused
After receiving information about the shooting, police teams, Crime Branch personnel and a Forensic Science Laboratory team reached the spot to investigate.
Investigators recovered empty bullet casings from the scene as part of the evidence collection process.
Police have launched a search operation to trace and arrest the accused. Paramjit's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination at ESI Medical College.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
