Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to interact with members of India's contingent that participated in the 2026 Asian Para Games at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex on Thursday.

The programme is expected to begin at around 4:30 p.m., during which the Prime Minister will also address the gathering.

The event will be attended by para-athletes, coaches, officials from the Paralympic Committee of India and the Indian Olympic Association, representatives of National Sports Federations, and officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

India Records Best-Ever Medal Haul

India delivered its strongest-ever performance at the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with 97 athletes securing a record 114 medals, including 30 gold.

The contingent finished with 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals, surpassing its previous best of 108 medals, including 27 gold, achieved at the 2023 edition in Hangzhou, China.

India also crossed the 100-medal mark for the second consecutive edition, reflecting its growing presence in international para-sports.

Para-athletics emerged as the country's biggest medal contributor, accounting for 65 medals, comprising 22 gold, 19 silver and 24 bronze.

Para-badminton followed with 16 medals, including three gold, five silver and eight bronze. Indian para-swimmers secured 11 medals, comprising three silver and eight bronze.

The contingent also performed strongly in para-archery, winning six medals, including three gold. Shooting contributed five medals, with two gold, two silver and one bronze.

India additionally secured seven bronze medals in para-table tennis, two silver in powerlifting and two medals in judo, comprising one silver and one bronze.

Sumit Antil and Simran Sharma Lead India's Standout Performances

Javelin thrower Sumit Antil successfully defended his gold medal in the men's F42-F44/F61-F64 category. His victory was part of a podium sweep for India in the event.

Sprinter Simran Sharma also delivered an outstanding performance, winning gold in both the women's 100m and 200m T12 events. She set Games records in both competitions.

In shooting, Mona Agarwal won gold in the women's 50m rifle three positions SH1 event with record scores. India also secured two quota places in shooting for the 2028 Summer Paralympics.

The Games featured achievements across generations, with 50-year-old Jehan Dorab Madan becoming India's oldest medallist at the event after winning bronze in para-table tennis.

The record-breaking campaign marks another significant milestone for Indian para-sports and its growing international competitiveness.
