President Droupadi Murmu congratulated Indian archer Neeraj Chauhan after he won the bronze medal in the men's individual recurve event at the 2026 Asian Games in Okazaki on Saturday.
Neeraj defeated compatriot Dhiraj Bommadevara in the bronze-medal playoff, ensuring that India secured both third place and fourth place in the event.
Murmu said the all-Indian bronze-medal contest was a special moment for Indian recurve archery and highlighted India's growing presence on the individual podium at the continental Games.
In a post on X, the President congratulated Neeraj on his medal and wished him further success, describing the achievement as a proud moment for Indian archery.
Neeraj's bronze was part of another strong Asian Games campaign for India's archers. The Indian contingent collected nine medals in archery, including five gold, two silver and two bronze, finishing ahead of South Korea in the overall medal count for a second consecutive edition.
At the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, India had also won nine archery medals, comprising five gold, two silver and two bronze. South Korea finished that campaign with 11 medals, including four gold, four silver and three bronze.
Seventeen-year-old Kumkum Mohod was among India's leading performers in Okazaki. She became the country's first woman to win an individual recurve gold at the Asian Games after defeating South Korea's Oh Yejin 6-5 in a shoot-off.
Kumkum also teamed up with Kirti Sharma and Ankita Bhakat to win the women's recurve team gold, giving India its first-ever gold in the event. She added a silver medal in the mixed recurve event alongside Dhiraj.
India also dominated the compound team events. The men's team of Sahil Jadhav, Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru and Kushal Dalal defeated China to claim gold.
Chikitha Taniparthi, Jyothi Surekha and Prithika Pradeep secured another gold for India in the women's compound team event after overcoming China in the final.
Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi then combined to win the mixed compound team gold, defeating South Korea in the final.
The nine-medal haul capped a successful archery campaign for India at the 2026 Asian Games, with the country winning gold across both recurve and compound team events.
