PM Modi Congratulates Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi on Asian Games Gold

The Indian trio defeated China 238-234 in the final at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square on Wednesday to retain the Asian Games title in the event.

This is even more special because their performance also equalled the World Record. This is a tremendous achievement for our archers. India had defeated South Korea in the semifinal before facing China in the gold-medal contest. Their final score of 238 matched the world record set by South Korea at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.

The Indian team established an early advantage, taking a 30-28 lead in the opening end. They maintained their momentum in the second end despite Chikitha recording a nine during the first rotation, with Prithika and Jyothi continuing to find the 10-ring.

India and China each opened the first rotation of the second end with a nine and two 10s. China then recorded two 10s and a nine, while the Indian trio produced three consecutive 10s to extend their advantage to 119-116.

China continued to apply pressure in the third end, beginning with three perfect 10s. Chikitha opened India's response with a nine, followed by 10s from Prithika and Jyothi.

After China recorded a nine followed by two 10s in the second rotation, India answered with three 10s to take a 178-175 lead into the final end.

China began the final end with two 9s and a 10 before India responded with three 10s. The Chinese trio then produced three consecutive 10s to keep the contest close, but India finished with another perfect sequence of 10s to secure the 238-234 victory.

The gold marked another successful Asian Games campaign for India's women's compound archery team and retained the title won by the country in the previous edition.
