Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday invited Dutch businesses to explore investment, manufacturing and innovation opportunities in India, highlighting the country’s expanding electronics manufacturing capabilities, reform momentum and growing technology ecosystem.
Goyal held discussions with chief experience officers and business leaders from the Netherlands at a Business Leaders’ Roundtable, focusing on opportunities to deepen bilateral economic cooperation across semiconductors, retail, renewable energy and emerging technologies.
Focus on semiconductor manufacturing and supply chains
During a meeting with Stefan Tilger, interim CEO of semiconductor company Nexperia, Goyal discussed opportunities to expand collaboration in the semiconductor sector.
“India’s growing electronics manufacturing capabilities and expanding technology ecosystem offer significant potential to strengthen partnerships and build resilient semiconductor supply chains,” the minister said in a post on X.
Goyal also met Wayne Allan, Executive Vice President and member of the Board of Management at ASML, to discuss ways to deepen the company’s engagement with India as the country works to develop a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.
The discussions covered potential cooperation in advanced semiconductor technologies, innovation and skills development, with Goyal pointing to India’s policy initiatives, rising investments and expanding talent pool as factors supporting opportunities across the global chip value chain.
IKEA discussions focus on manufacturing and sourcing
In his meeting with Juvencio Maeztu, CEO and President of Ingka Group, which operates IKEA stores, Goyal discussed how the Swedish-founded home furnishings retailer could make greater use of India’s manufacturing capabilities to strengthen its global sourcing network.
The discussions also covered opportunities for IKEA to expand its presence and deepen investments in India, with the minister highlighting the potential offered by the country’s growing consumer market.
Green hydrogen and renewable energy cooperation
Goyal also met Occo Roelofsen, founder and CEO of Power2X, to exchange views on strengthening India-Netherlands cooperation in green hydrogen, renewable energy and emerging technologies.
The engagement explored opportunities for mutual growth while advancing shared clean-energy objectives, as both countries look to expand collaboration in sustainable technologies.
India-Netherlands Business Forum highlights wider partnership
Goyal also addressed the India-Netherlands Business Forum alongside Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, the Netherlands’ Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.
He highlighted the potential for the two economies to build on their complementary strengths, identifying semiconductors, green hydrogen, maritime cooperation, water management and resilient infrastructure as areas offering scope for greater collaboration.
Goyal said India’s scale, talent pool and economic dynamism, combined with Dutch expertise and innovation, could provide a strong foundation for expanding bilateral economic ties.
He urged Dutch companies and investors to explore opportunities in India and translate shared ambitions into investment, economic growth and prosperity for both countries.
