A 50-year-old man accused of murdering his wife at their residence in Nalasopara allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a local train at Mumbai's Grant Road railway station, just hours after his wife's body was discovered.
The two incidents took place on November 7. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman's death and the subsequent incident at the railway station.
The accused, identified as Majeed Hanif Khan, lived with his wife, Tabassum Majeed Khan, at Alfatifa Building in Aman Nagar, Takipada, Nalasopara West.
According to Nalasopara Police, Majeed allegedly suspected his wife of infidelity, leading to frequent arguments between the couple.
Daughter Discovers Mother's Body
Preliminary information suggests that Tabassum conducted tuition classes for young children from their home. Parents regularly visited the residence to drop off and collect their children. Majeed reportedly developed suspicions about his wife's character because of these visits, which allegedly became a recurring source of conflict.
According to the complaint filed by the couple's daughter, the family had dinner together on the night of November 6 and watched television until late. The daughter then went to sleep in the hall, while her parents remained in their bedroom.
At around 5 a.m. on November 7, the daughter woke up and noticed that the main door was open. When she entered the bedroom, she found her mother lying unconscious on the floor with injuries to her face and neck. Her father was missing.
In her complaint, the daughter alleged that Majeed had attacked Tabassum with a sharp-edged weapon, causing fatal injuries, before fleeing the residence.
Murder Case Registered Against Husband
After receiving information about the incident, a team from Nalasopara Police Station reached the residence, conducted an inquest and sent Tabassum's body for post-mortem examination.
Police registered a murder case against Majeed and launched a search to trace him.
However, police subsequently received information that Majeed had allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a local train at Grant Road railway station in Mumbai.
Police are investigating the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding both incidents. Further investigation is underway.
