India’s exports of goods and services to Germany could exceed $50 billion by 2030, supported by the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), stronger industrial cooperation and deeper economic engagement.

The report was released by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal during his visit to Berlin, where the agreement and expanding India-Germany economic ties were highlighted as potential drivers of bilateral trade.

ASSOCHAM said the India-EU FTA is expected to provide fresh momentum to trade by improving market access for Indian exporters. Zero-duty access to a significant share of Indian exports to the European Union could benefit sectors including textiles, apparel, leather, footwear, gems and jewellery, marine products, engineering goods, pharmaceuticals and electronics.

The industry body said greater utilisation of the agreement could help Indian businesses strengthen their presence in the German market and expand export opportunities across multiple sectors.

Manufacturing and technology offer scope for cooperation

ASSOCHAM President Nirmal K. Minda said India and Germany could build on their respective strengths in manufacturing, technology and innovation to deepen economic ties and generate new growth opportunities.

He added that stronger engagement between industries could open up opportunities for businesses, particularly micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), while reinforcing long-term economic cooperation.

According to ASSOCHAM, Germany's established industrial base and India's expanding manufacturing and services sectors create opportunities for collaboration in advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, digital technology, critical minerals and defence.

Such cooperation could help businesses access new markets, strengthen supply chains and expand technological capabilities.

Green energy and sustainable development in focus

ASSOCHAM Secretary General Saurabh Sanyal said Germany's Green and Sustainable Development Partnership, alongside bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, green hydrogen, electric mobility and battery storage, could support investment, technology exchange and sustainable industrial development.

He also emphasised the importance of stronger business-to-business engagement, sector-specific interactions and buyer-seller meetings to convert the growing economic partnership into concrete commercial outcomes and enable wider participation by Indian businesses.

Export potential could reach $60 billion

ASSOCHAM's SP Sharma said India had considerable potential to expand exports to Germany through more effective use of the India-EU FTA, suggesting that shipments of goods and services could reach $60 billion, or approximately 54 billion euros, by 2030.

Sharma said stronger cooperation in trade, investment and technology could provide a sustained boost to economic relations between the two countries.

ASSOCHAM said it would continue to facilitate industry engagement and knowledge-sharing to help Indian companies identify opportunities in Germany and strengthen the broader India-Germany strategic economic partnership.

The projected export growth will depend on how effectively businesses capitalise on improved market access, expand their competitiveness and translate bilateral cooperation into sustained commercial activity.
