Pharmaceutical major Cipla reported a 35 per cent year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit for the second quarter of FY27, as weaker North American sales and a sharp contraction in operating margins.

The company posted a consolidated net profit of ₹878 crore for the quarter ended September 2026, compared with ₹1,351.17 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year, according to its stock exchange filing on Tuesday.

Revenue from operations fell 2.4 per cent year-on-year to ₹7,403.93 crore from ₹7,589 crore in Q2 FY26, reflecting pressure on the company’s overall performance despite continued growth in its domestic business.

Operating Margins Contract Sharply

Cipla’s operating performance weakened during the quarter, with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) declining 26.8 per cent to ₹1,388 crore from ₹1,895 crore a year earlier.

The EBITDA margin contracted by 630 basis points to 18.7 per cent, compared with 25 per cent a year earlier.

The sharper decline in operating earnings relative to revenue indicates the extent of pressure on profitability during the quarter.

Following the earnings announcement, Cipla shares were trading 0.6 per cent lower at ₹1,347 apiece during afternoon trade on Tuesday.

India Business Records Highest-Ever Quarterly Sales

Cipla’s domestic operations remained a key source of growth, helping partly offset weakness in overseas markets.

Revenue from the Indian market increased 12 per cent year-on-year to ₹3,516 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with ₹3,146 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The company said its One-India business recorded its highest-ever quarterly sales during the quarter, underscoring the strength of its domestic operations despite the decline in consolidated revenue and profit.

North America Revenue Falls 19%

Weakness in North America was a major drag on Cipla’s quarterly performance. Revenue from the region declined 19 per cent year-on-year to ₹1,643 crore from ₹2,039 crore in Q2 FY26.

The North American business generated quarterly revenue of $172 million.

The regional decline came alongside the contraction in EBITDA and operating margins, weighing on the company’s overall financial results.

Africa Business Sees Modest Decline

Cipla’s One Africa business reported revenue of ₹1,171 crore, down 1 per cent from the year-ago period.

Within the segment, South African revenue declined 3 per cent to ₹872 crore. However, the company said its private business in South Africa grew 1.3 times faster than the broader market, indicating relative strength in that part of its operations.

Revenue from emerging markets and Europe remained broadly flat at ₹967 crore during the quarter, despite geopolitical uncertainties affecting the operating environment.

API and Other Businesses Revenue Plunges

The API and other businesses segment recorded the steepest decline among Cipla’s reported business categories.

Revenue from the segment fell 59 per cent year-on-year to ₹107 crore from ₹259 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

The sharp fall in this segment, together with lower North American revenue and weaker operating margins, contributed to the pharmaceutical company’s overall decline in quarterly profitability.

Cipla’s Q2 FY27 results reflect a mixed performance across markets, with record quarterly sales in India unable to offset pressure from North America and the steep contraction in the API and other businesses segment.
