The death toll in the Chawri Bazaar building collapse in Delhi rose to four on Saturday after rescue teams recovered another body from the debris at Sattara Gali, Ajmeri Gate.

Officials said the identity of the fourth victim had not yet been established. The body was shifted by ambulance to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital for further formalities.

Rescue operations remain underway at the site as teams continue searching through the rubble.

Four Dead, Two Injured Rescued

Earlier on Saturday, rescue personnel recovered a third body, identified as Pankaj Sharma, 40, a resident of Hanuman Nagar in Bihar's Khagaria district.

According to officials, a total of six people have now been accounted for in the rescue operation: four deceased and two injured. Both injured persons have received medical treatment and are reported to be stable.

Two bodies were recovered on Thursday, the day of the collapse, while one injured person was rescued and taken to hospital.

Multi-Agency Rescue Operation Underway

The three-storey building, which was under construction, collapsed on Thursday. Officials said the first information about the incident was received at around 9.50 a.m. from Gali Sitara, near Chawri Bazaar Metro Station.

A large-scale rescue operation was subsequently launched involving the Delhi Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Construction Allegedly Illegal; Civic Officials Suspended

Police said the construction work at the collapsed building was allegedly illegal and that the structure was unsafe.

Following the incident, the MCD suspended its Junior Engineer and Assistant Engineer. An FIR has also been registered against the contractor.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has assured that all possible efforts are being made to rescue anyone who may remain trapped beneath the debris. She said an investigation is underway and that strict action would be taken against those found responsible.
