BJP president Nitin Nabin has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing the two leaders of prioritising their families over public welfare.

In an exclusive interview, Nabin referred to the two opposition leaders as “yuvraj” (princes) and questioned their political record, claiming that neither had adequately addressed the concerns of ordinary people in the state.

Commenting on discussions around a possible Congress-SP alliance, the BJP chief said voters did not have confidence in the proposed political partnership.

“The public knows that these two so-called ‘Yuvraj’ only think about themselves and their family and are not at all concerned about the people of UP,” Nabin said.

He alleged that both leaders had failed to use their previous opportunities in power to address the needs of farmers, young people, women and workers, claiming that their political priorities remained centred on their families.

Nabin questions Akhilesh Yadav’s Krishna-themed political messaging

Nabin also criticised Akhilesh Yadav over posters displayed outside the Samajwadi Party office featuring the SP chief alongside Lord Krishna, accompanied by the slogan “27 mein Krishna aayenge” (Lord Krishna will arrive in 2027).

Accusing Yadav of changing his political positions to suit electoral considerations, Nabin alleged that the SP chief was adopting a dual approach to politics.

“Such politics does not succeed for long. Earlier, they used to wear a cap and do politics around it... Now they keep changing their roles and positions. However, the people of the state have not forgotten what all they did during the construction of the Ram Temple,” he said.

Nabin further accused opposition leaders of viewing religious and cultural issues through the lens of vote-bank politics.

BJP targets Akhilesh over meeting with Azam Khan

The BJP president also criticised Akhilesh Yadav’s recent meeting with senior SP leader Azam Khan at Rampur District Jail.

Referring to the SP government's tenure in Uttar Pradesh, Nabin alleged that the state had witnessed the influence of powerful criminal figures and described that period as one in which every district had its own strongman.

He accused Akhilesh Yadav of continuing to support such figures for electoral reasons.

Nabin credited the BJP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with strengthening law and order and taking action against organised crime.

He claimed that individuals who had previously wielded influence from within the corridors of power had been brought under the law.

BJP chief expresses confidence ahead of UP Assembly polls

Describing Uttar Pradesh as a state moving beyond its earlier image as a “bimaru” (underdeveloped) state, Nabin said it was progressing towards becoming “Uttam Pradesh”.

He contrasted the BJP government's “One District, One Product” initiative with what he described as the previous SP government's “One District, One Mafia” situation.

Nabin also expressed confidence about the BJP's prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections, referring to his recent visit to Gorakhpur and claiming that the party enjoyed public support across the state.

He praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for implementing Central government schemes and improving law and order, while crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for strengthening public confidence in the government.

“The government has earned the trust of the people, and that trust is clearly visible across the state. That is why we can see their support on the ground whenever we go among the public,” Nabin said.
