Teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah returned to India's playing XI for the Asian Games semifinal against Sri Lanka on Thursday after the Lankan side won the toss and elected to field.
India made two changes from the XI that featured in the one-off T20I against Japan, with Sooryavanshi and Bumrah coming into the side in place of Yash Thakur and Arshdeep Singh.
Sooryavanshi returned to the XI after missing India's entire Afghanistan series and the T20I against Japan. The 15-year-old was set to open alongside Abhishek Sharma, with Sanju Samson listed at No. 3.
India also retained Ishan Kishan in the XI, with the left-hander expected to bat at No. 5.
Bumrah returned after being rested for the Japan match as India fielded the strongest available squad. The only notable absentees were Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana, who were unavailable due to injury.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, entered the semifinal with a largely second-string squad led by Sahan Arachchige. Their XI included Chamika Karunaratne, Nuwanidu Fernando and Binura Fernando.
Both teams had limited match practice heading into the semifinal as their respective quarterfinals were abandoned because of persistent rain in Nisshin.
India were scheduled to face Afghanistan in the quarterfinal, while Sri Lanka were due to meet Nepal. With neither match able to take place, India and Sri Lanka progressed to the semifinals based on their higher rankings over their respective opponents.
**Sri Lanka Playing XI:** Lasith Croospulle, Sineth Jayawardena, Sohan de Livera (wicketkeeper), Ashen Bandara, Sahan Arachchige (captain), Nuwanidu Fernando, Chamika Karunaratne, Wanuja Sahan, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Tharindu Ratnayake, Binura Fernando.
**India Playing XI:** Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Shreyas Iyer (captain), Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah.
