Asian Games: India Defeat South Korea to Reach Men’s Compound Team Final

The Indian trio will face China in the gold-medal match, while South Korea will take on Chinese Taipei in the bronze-medal contest.

India established an early advantage in the opening end after South Korea began with scores of 8, 10 and 10. The Indian trio responded with three 10s before both teams produced perfect scores in their respective second rotations. India finished the first end with a 60-58 lead.

South Korea again dropped points at the beginning of the second end, recording an 8, 10 and 9. India maintained its accuracy with scores of 10, 9 and 10 in the opening rotation. Although the Koreans followed with three 10s, India matched them to preserve its advantage and move to 119-115.

The third end saw India pull further clear. South Korea opened with three consecutive 9s, while India continued its near-perfect shooting with three 10s. Another nine from the Koreans later in the end allowed India to extend the margin to seven points at 178-171.

Both teams produced two 10s and a nine in the opening rotation of the final end. They repeated the same sequence in the second rotation, but India had already built enough of a cushion to secure a 236-229 victory.

The win puts India into the gold-medal match against China and keeps the country on course for another compound archery title after gold medals in the women’s team and mixed team events.

India enjoyed its most successful Asian Games archery campaign at Hangzhou 2023, where it won a record nine medals, including five gold, two silver and two bronze. The compound archers claimed all five gold medals available at those Games, while India’s recurve teams contributed a silver and a bronze.
