“A Headline Is Not Evidence”, Sooraj Pancholi Denies Links to Disha Salian and Aaditya Thackeray Amid CBI Probe

Actor Sooraj Pancholi has publicly addressed the renewed controversy surrounding the death of celebrity manager Disha Salian, strongly denying any acquaintance or connection with either Salian or Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray. The actor issued a comprehensive statement on social media after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a First Information Report (FIR) to examine the circumstances surrounding Salian's June 2020 death, following directives from the Bombay High Court.

Refuting allegations and recurring speculation, Pancholi stated that his name has been repeatedly and unfairly linked to the incident without factual basis. "I have never met Late Disha Salian in my life, directly or indirectly. I have also never met Aditya Thackeray in my life!" Pancholi stated. "It is honestly very unfair and extremely upsetting to see my name being dragged into something that I have absolutely nothing to do with, especially when there is no evidence or proof connecting me to this matter." Pancholi clarified that he had previously cooperated with law enforcement, noting that his statements were recorded by investigators nearly four to five years ago. Emphasizing that he has "nothing to hide," the actor affirmed his willingness to make himself available for further questioning should central agencies require it.

Addressing the public and media scrutiny, Pancholi urged viewers not to conflate television discourse with facts, warning against the real-world impact of unverified claims. Pancholi stressed that "a headline is not evidence. A debate is not evidence. Someone saying something on television does not make it a fact." He appealed to the public to verify details before forming judgments, emphasizing that behind every public debate is an individual and a family facing reputational harm. While backing a thorough and impartial CBI probe into Salian’s demise, he also called for accountability regarding what he termed "malicious propaganda and false narratives" created around the tragedy.

Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a residential high-rise in Malad, Mumbai, days before the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Initially recorded as an Accidental Death Report (ADR) by local police, the case was recently transferred to the CBI following a petition by Salian’s family before the Bombay High Court seeking a comprehensive investigation. The agency’s FIR outlines roles for preliminary inquiry based on complaints and representations submitted during court proceedings. Pancholi concluded his statement expressing complete trust in the legal process: "Let the facts speak. Let the investigation speak. Let the truth speak."
