The Reserve Bank of India has appointed Sudhakar Malli as an Executive Director, with his new role taking effect from October 1 Before his elevation, Malli was serving as a Chief General Manager-in-Charge.
Malli brings nearly three decades of experience at the central bank, including more than 25 years focused on the supervision of banks, non-banking financial companies and cooperative banks.
His professional experience also includes around five years of supervisory work in overseas jurisdictions, along with responsibilities in the area of currency management.
Malli holds a BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB).
The appointment comes amid a series of recent changes to the RBI's senior leadership. Last month, the central bank appointed Suman Ray as an Executive Director with immediate effect.
Before his promotion, Ray served as the Regional Director for Maharashtra. As Executive Director, he is responsible for the Department of Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation as well as the Premises Department.
Ray has spent more than three decades with the RBI and has worked across areas including currency management, financial inclusion, payment and settlement systems, consumer education and protection, and human resources. He has also served as Secretary to the Western Area Local Board.
In August, the RBI appointed Monisha Chakraborty as Executive Director. She oversees the Foreign Exchange Department and the Financial Markets Regulation Department.
Chakraborty has also spent more than three decades with the central bank, with experience spanning supervision, foreign exchange, and government and bank accounts. She was involved with a technical committee that reviewed the format of the RBI's balance sheet and profit and loss account and has previously served as a Banking Ombudsman.
