Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday called upon young people to draw inspiration from the ideals of Lord Shri Ram and pledge to reject discrimination in all its forms, as he paid tribute.

In a message marking Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, the Chief Minister highlighted the sage’s contributions to Indian civilisation and humanity, describing him as a guiding figure whose teachings continue to promote social harmony, justice and human dignity.

Extending his greetings to the people, Adityanath said Valmiki’s epic, the Ramayana, conveyed enduring values of truth, righteousness, dignity and devotion to duty that remain relevant across generations.

CM Calls for a Society Free from Prejudice

Addressing the youth, Adityanath stressed the need to eliminate inequality and prejudice to build a more harmonious society.

“Let us draw inspiration from the ideals of Lord Shri Ram and pledge never to accept discrimination in any form,” he said, adding that genuine social harmony could be achieved only by removing barriers of inequality from people’s hearts and minds.

Recalling the traditional account of the origins of Valmiki’s first Sanskrit verse, the Chief Minister referred to the sage’s profound grief after witnessing the killing of a krauncha bird. He said the moment gave expression to the compassion that ultimately paved the way for the composition of the Ramayana.

Adityanath added that through his portrayal of Lord Ram, Valmiki envisioned an ideal society rooted in love, justice, fraternity and social harmony.

Ramayana’s Message of Equality and Dignity

The Chief Minister cited the episode in which Lord Ram embraces Nishadraj Guha as a close friend, describing it as a reminder that genuine respect and human relationships transcend social identities.

He also referred to the concept of Ram Rajya, saying it rests on the principles of dignity, security and welfare for every individual.

According to Adityanath, the teachings associated with Valmiki’s legacy should inspire efforts to ensure that every person, regardless of social background, receives equal respect and opportunities.

UP Government Highlights Initiatives to Preserve Valmiki’s Legacy

The Chief Minister outlined several state government initiatives aimed at promoting Maharishi Valmiki’s teachings and preserving places associated with his life and legacy.

He said development work was being undertaken at the sage’s revered meditation site in Chitrakoot to inspire devotees and younger generations. Projects have also been implemented for the preservation and tourism development of Maharishi Valmiki Ashram in Bithoor, which tradition associates with the composition of the Ramayana.

Adityanath further noted that naming Ayodhya’s international airport after Maharishi Valmiki had brought greater national and international recognition to the sage’s legacy. He also cited the declaration of a public holiday on Valmiki Jayanti in Uttar Pradesh as a mark of respect for the revered figure.

Focus on Welfare of Marginalised Communities

Adityanath said the state government remained committed to the social and economic advancement of marginalised and underprivileged communities through measures aimed at improving dignity, security and access to opportunities.

He emphasised that the true spirit of Valmiki’s teachings could be realised only when people at the most disadvantaged levels of society enjoyed equal rights and opportunities.

The Chief Minister also highlighted welfare initiatives for sanitation workers and noted that villages inhabited by the Van Tangiya community had been granted revenue village status.

His message placed social equality, human dignity and the welfare of disadvantaged communities at the centre of the values he associated with Maharishi Valmiki’s legacy.
