The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 18 districts in Bihar, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 40–50 kmph on Friday.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Patna, unsettled weather is expected across several parts of the state, with North Bihar and the Seemanchal region likely to experience rainfall. Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible in parts of north-western, north-central and south-western Bihar.
The districts covered under the yellow alert include Gopalganj, Siwan, Bhojpur, Buxar, Arwal, Aurangabad, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Kaimur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Rohtas and Muzaffarpur.
Apart from these districts, rainfall is possible in several areas of northern and eastern Bihar, including Purnea, Katihar, Araria, Supaul, Madhepura, Saharsa and Kishanganj.
The changing weather conditions come as the southwest monsoon withdrawal approaches completion. Atmospheric moisture and local weather patterns are expected to contribute to variations in rainfall and humidity across the state.
Patna and neighbouring areas are likely to remain largely dry on Friday, although isolated light showers cannot be ruled out due to local cloud formation. Weather activity is expected to be more pronounced in northern districts and areas bordering neighbouring regions.
According to the forecast, weather activity is likely to weaken from Saturday, with isolated showers remaining possible in parts of the Kosi, Seemanchal and eastern Bihar regions.
Conditions are expected to improve across most parts of the state by Sunday. However, isolated rainfall may continue in some areas, particularly Kishanganj.
No significant changes in maximum or minimum temperatures are anticipated across most districts over the next five days.
In view of the forecast for lightning and strong winds, residents have been advised to remain cautious and follow official weather updates. People should seek shelter inside substantial buildings during thunderstorms and avoid open fields, isolated trees, electric poles and transformers.
Residents are also advised to limit outdoor movement during severe weather and remain in safe locations until thunderstorms have passed.
