Leaders from Japan, Nigeria and Dominica have congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years as head of government, with several describing the milestone as an exceptional achievement.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi congratulated Modi on his 25 years in public office and praised what she described as his political leadership and efforts towards India's development.
Takaichi said Modi had worked to advance Indian society and the country's growth since becoming Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001. She also credited him with raising India's international profile and expressed respect for his record of public service.
The Japanese Prime Minister also recalled her visit to India in July, describing it as productive and thanking Modi for the welcome extended to her. She said the two countries would mark 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2027 and said she intended to work with Modi to further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and advance a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also congratulated Modi on the milestone, recalling his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister before becoming Prime Minister in 2014.
Tinubu described 25 years of uninterrupted service as a rare achievement in a democracy and said it reflected the confidence placed in Modi by the Indian people. He credited Modi's leadership with India's development in areas including infrastructure, digital public infrastructure, financial inclusion and innovation.
The Nigerian President also referred to Modi's 2024 state visit to Abuja, where he was conferred Nigeria's Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger. Tinubu said the visit provided fresh momentum to cooperation between India and Nigeria in areas including trade and investment, energy, defence and security, healthcare, education and technology.
He said India and Nigeria, as democracies and prominent voices of the Global South, shared an interest in promoting a more inclusive and representative international order. Tinubu also expressed confidence that bilateral ties would continue to strengthen.
Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit also extended his congratulations to Modi, describing him as a friend and appreciating India's relationship with Dominica.
Skerrit highlighted the friendship and assistance extended by Modi to Dominica and said he valued the relationship between the two countries. He expressed his desire to further strengthen bilateral ties and wished Modi good health, strength and continued success in public service.
