The Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly will begin its two-day session in Gairsain on Tuesday, with the state government scheduled to present a supplementary budget of about Rs 7,412 crore on the first day.
Financial proposals, legislative business and issues of public interest are expected to dominate the proceedings, with the possibility of sharp exchanges between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition Congress.
The government is also scheduled to introduce eight bills during the session. The House will pay tributes to former Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri and former minister Heera Singh Bisht.
445 Questions Submitted by MLAs
As many as 31 legislators have submitted 445 questions for the session, seeking answers on a range of issues concerning governance, public welfare and the state's development.
The questions are expected to bring constituency-level concerns and broader policy matters before the House, with legislators seeking clarifications from the government on issues affecting residents across Uttarakhand.
Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri has appealed to all political parties to cooperate in ensuring the smooth functioning of the two-day sitting.
However, political differences could feature prominently, as the ruling party and the Opposition have held internal meetings to prepare their strategies and identify issues for discussion.
The Congress remained absent from the Business Advisory Committee meeting ahead of the session.
BJP and Congress Prepare Their Strategies
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party in Gairsain on Monday to discuss preparations for the Assembly session. Ministers and MLAs attended the meeting, where they discussed the House proceedings and issues likely to come up during the sitting.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, Dhami said discussions covered Assembly business, important public interest matters, the state's development and public welfare.
The Congress, meanwhile, is preparing to challenge the government on unemployment, inflation, law and order and local concerns. The Opposition is also planning a protest around the Assembly to highlight what it considers shortcomings in the government's handling of these issues.
With the supplementary budget, eight proposed bills and hundreds of questions on the agenda, the session is expected to focus on the state's financial priorities and the Opposition's demands for government accountability.
