Uttar Pradesh has prepared the electoral rolls for Legislative Council Graduate and Teachers’ constituencies entirely online for the first time, marking a significant shift towards digital voter registration.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh announced the development on X, highlighting online registration, digital publication of electoral rolls, and facilities that let voters check their polling stations and voter serial numbers from home.
Previously, electoral rolls for Graduate and Teachers’ constituency elections were prepared manually at the district level. Under the new system, the CEO’s official website handles the entire process, making registration and access to voter information more convenient.
The initiative follows Election Commission of India instructions issued on September 5, 2016, which called for online application facilities to help eligible individuals register as voters.
A dedicated portal enables applicants to complete their registration forms remotely. Based on the qualifying date of November 1, 2025, a total of 3,43,355 applications were submitted online. Of these, 2,91,273 were from the Graduate constituency category and 52,082 from the Teachers’ constituency category.
The final electoral rolls were prepared digitally and published on January 6, 2026. They were also uploaded to the websites of the respective District Election Officers.
After publication, applications seeking the inclusion, deletion or correction of names were submitted to the offices of Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. The CEO’s office noted that supplementary electoral rolls had not previously been available online, making it difficult for voters and political parties to track changes to the lists.
Before the election announcement, the state processed all pending applications and published the final electoral rolls online. The completed rolls for the Graduate and Teachers’ constituencies contained a total of **14,81,310 electors**.
The state also introduced a separate facility that lets voters locate their designated polling station and check their serial number without visiting an election office.
The registration portal became operational on October 1, 2025, and the CEO’s office IT team developed it within four months, with support from technical experts.
According to district-level reports, fewer than 150 electors had errors involving their names or their relatives' names printed on the rolls. The CEO’s office said the number represented less than 0.01 per cent of the total electorate, indicating a low reported error rate.
