Rajasthan Police conducted a raid at the ancestral residence of Naresh Meena, head of the Bhagat Singh Sena and a farmers’ leader, on Tuesday as part of an investigation into the alleged attack and vandalism

The police team searched Meena’s ancestral house in Nayagaon early in the morning but was unable to locate him. The operation was carried out following instructions from Baran Superintendent of Police Abhishek Andasu.

Meena has subsequently announced on social media that he intends to surrender at the Nahargarh police station on November 6 at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, police have arrested four people in connection with the incident and are continuing efforts to trace other suspects.

Police intensify search for main accused

A special team was formed to apprehend Meena. It comprised Atru Circle Officer Ramanand Yadav, Mothpur Station House Officer Kamal Singh, Baran Sadar SHO Nawalkishore Meena and personnel from the District Special Team.

According to police officials, investigations are continuing into allegations of government property damage, obstruction of public servants performing their duties and threats against forest personnel.

Following the raid, Meena claimed in a social media post that police personnel had arrived at his residence around 5 a.m. to arrest him. He reiterated his intention to surrender on November 6.

In the same message, he appealed to voters in Rajasthan to move beyond the Congress and BJP and support an alternative political front. He urged voters to consider candidates from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP), along with strong Independent candidates and Left party candidates in Sikar.

His appeal comes amid increased political activity in the state during the ongoing Panchayati Raj elections.

Details of the Nahargarh Forest Department incident

The incident occurred on November 1, when Pradeep Singh Rathore, who heads the Nahargarh forest check-post, and other forest personnel reportedly seized a generator allegedly being used for an unauthorised tubewell on forest land in Jhiri Tapra.

The confiscated equipment was subsequently transported to the Forest Department's range office.

According to the complaint, Meena arrived at the premises accompanied by a large group of supporters. The group allegedly threatened to set the office on fire, assaulted forest personnel and removed their official badges and nameplates.

The accused also allegedly damaged government records, including the seizure panchnama, before taking away the confiscated generator in a mini transport vehicle.

The incident resulted in damage to government property and prompted police to initiate an investigation.

Four accused arrested

Nahargarh SHO Vivek Harsana confirmed that four individuals were arrested on Monday in connection with the case. They were subsequently presented before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jitendra Nagar (36), from Nahargarh; Devendra Kushwaha (22), from Balapura; Pappu Bhil (25), from Lakdai; and Murari Gurjar (20).

Police said efforts were continuing to identify and apprehend the remaining individuals allegedly involved in the incident, including Meena, who is considered the main suspect in the case.
