Two young women travelling to Bengaluru for a job interview were killed and several others injured after two cars collided in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district early on Monday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Nisarga, 20, and Roopa, 21, both of whom had completed their Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degrees. They were travelling from Vijayapura in north Karnataka to Bengaluru when the accident occurred within the limits of Tavarekere village in Sira taluk.

According to preliminary police investigations, the accident took place around 5 a.m. within the jurisdiction of Tavarekere police station. The car carrying the women reportedly went out of control after its driver, Pavan, lost control and struck a road divider.

The vehicle is said to have spun into the air before landing on the road and colliding with a car approaching from the opposite direction.

Several Injured in the Crash

Four people, including Pavan, were travelling in the first car. The driver and another woman sustained serious injuries.

The second vehicle was also carrying four people, all of whom were injured in the collision. The injured were shifted to the district hospital in Tumakuru for treatment.

Police have initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Recent Road Accidents Raise Safety Concerns

The incident comes amid a series of fatal road accidents reported in Karnataka in recent days.

On October 25, a boy aged around 13 died after a car collided with a truck at Goonadka on the Mani-Mysuru National Highway near Sullia in the Dakshina Kannada region. Four other occupants of the car were injured and admitted to a hospital in Sullia.

Earlier, on October 16, a 16-year-old boy driving a car with two minor friends reportedly crashed into the rear of a CNG lorry on National Highway 48 near Anagodu in Davanagere district. The teenager died, while his companions sustained serious injuries.

On October 18, a Class 10 student identified as Hemanth died after a speeding car entered a one-way road and struck the motorcycle on which he was riding pillion.

The latest accident in Tumakuru adds to the recent cases of fatal road crashes across the state, with police continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incidents.
