Two Killed After Speeding SUV Hits E-Scooter in UP’s Moradabad, Driver Flees

The victims, identified as Mohammad Rihan and Abuzar, were residents of Salempur village under the Kanth police station area of Moradabad. They were travelling together when the SUV allegedly collided with their e-scooter.

The impact was severe, and both men sustained critical injuries. They were later declared dead, according to preliminary information.

Police reached the spot after being alerted and took the bodies into custody. The bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem examinations as part of the investigation.

The SUV driver allegedly fled the scene after abandoning the vehicle. Police have seized the SUV and taken it to the police station while efforts are underway to identify and locate the person who was driving it at the time of the collision.

The vehicle is reportedly registered to Mohammad Naveed, a resident of the Civil Lines police station area. Police are examining the ownership and circumstances surrounding the vehicle's use at the time of the accident.

The deaths left the families of the two men devastated. Relatives demanded strict action against the person responsible for the crash.

Rihan’s family said he had been working in Dubai and was due to return there, with a flight booked for October 1. According to his relatives, he was the sole earning member of his household and his father had been unwell.

A family member expressed grief over the loss and demanded that the SUV driver be held accountable.

“The SUV rider may be a wealthy man, but what about them? The light of our home is gone,” the relative said.

The accident has also renewed concerns among residents about speeding and road safety in Moradabad. Locals pointed to another recent crash involving an SUV in the district.

Three days earlier, an SUV allegedly struck an e-rickshaw parked along the roadside in the Kundarki police station area, resulting in one death.

In a separate road accident reported from Chandigarh on Tuesday, an SUV driven by a woman collided with a motorcycle near a bridge close to Dhanas Lake, leaving two people injured.

The injured motorcyclists were taken to a hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately available. Police seized both vehicles and began investigating the circumstances of that collision.

Police investigations into the Moradabad and Chandigarh incidents are continuing, with authorities examining the circumstances of the respective crashes and the actions of the drivers involved.
