Three members of a family were killed and an 11-year-old girl was seriously injured after a trailer truck allegedly collided with their motorcycle in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district on Saturday morning.
The accident took place near Pitgara intersection on the Lebad-Nayagaon four-lane highway. The family was travelling from Bada Kathodiya village towards their farm in Kherwas, where they were reportedly headed for garlic sowing.
According to police, the motorcycle was allegedly struck by a trailer travelling from the Petlawad side. The impact caused the truck to run over the occupants of the motorcycle.
Rahul, 35, his wife Pooja, 30, and their 13-year-old daughter Suman died at the scene. Their younger daughter, Shivani, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The accident led to protests at the site, with relatives of the victims and local residents blocking the four-lane highway. The protesters demanded action against the driver and called for improved safety measures at the intersection.
The blockade disrupted traffic for around two-and-a-half hours, with congestion extending for nearly two kilometres on both sides of the highway. Several passenger buses and school vehicles were among those caught in the traffic jam.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Priyanka Mimrot, Tehsildar Suresh Nagar, SDOP Arvind Singh Tomar and Badnawar police station in-charge Amit Singh Kushwaha reached the location and held discussions with the protesters.
Officials assured the family and villagers that legal action would be taken against the trailer driver if found responsible and that measures would be taken to improve safety at the accident-prone location.
The protesters subsequently ended the road blockade following the assurances from the administration, allowing traffic to resume.
Police have registered an investigation into the accident and are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision. Further action will be taken in accordance with the findings of the investigation.
