Three Children Drown in Village Pond in Jharkhand’s Jamtara

The incident took place in the Chirkutola area of Chegayadih village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Jamtara Sadar police station.

The children had gone out to play in the afternoon and later made their way towards the nearby pond. According to local residents, they entered the water while playing and subsequently drowned.

Villagers rushed to the pond after learning about the incident and pulled the children from the water. However, all three had died by the time they were brought out.

The deceased were identified as five-year-old Aryan Ansari, around six-year-old Nasir Ansari and around six-year-old Amar Sohel. All three children were residents of Chegayadih village.

Aryan was the son of Jasimuddin Ansari, while Nasir was the son of Tabarak Ansari and Amar Sohel was the son of Sajawuddin Ansari.

Police from Jamtara Sadar police station reached the spot after being alerted about the incident and carried out a preliminary inspection. The authorities have initiated the process of sending the bodies for postmortem examination.

Police said an investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

The deaths have left Chegayadih village in mourning, with family members devastated by the loss. Residents gathered at the scene and later visited the bereaved families to offer condolences and support.

The incident comes amid several reported drowning deaths across Jharkhand this month. At least 15 people have reportedly died in separate incidents involving ponds, rivers, check dams and other water bodies in the state during September.

On September 23, five people drowned in the Koel River in Palamu during Karma Puja celebrations. A 16-year-old girl also died the same day during the immersion of a Karam branch in Nani Jharia.

Other drowning incidents during the month have been reported from West Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Gumla and Godda districts, highlighting the continuing risks associated with unguarded water bodies across the state.
