A major portion of the allocation will be used to purchase 500 new jeeps for Rs 55 crore. The vehicles will be integrated with the emergency response system and used for patrol duties and rapid response to calls for assistance.
The Tamil Nadu Special Police will receive 12 sniper rifles equipped with day and night sights, 10 grenade launchers, 30 Bulgarian 7.62 mm assault rifles, 50 other rifles and 10 light machine guns.
The procurement package also includes three corner-shot systems, 50 Glock-17 pistols and 50 paintball guns intended for training purposes.
The state is also expanding the police force's drone capabilities. Four drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras and loudspeakers will be purchased for Rs 1.18 crore, while another four advanced drones costing Rs 2.07 crore will be acquired for the Rapid Action Force.
Under the Smart Surveillance Project, the Thanjavur district police has been allocated Rs 15.67 crore for modern surveillance cameras and drone-based monitoring in areas including Kumbakonam, Pattukkottai and Thiruvaiyaru.
Bomb disposal units will receive seven internationally certified advanced bomb suits at a cost of Rs 3.50 crore. The procurement programme will also include explosive detection equipment, 200 advanced walkie-talkies compatible with 4G and 5G networks, 50 vehicle dashboard cameras and AI-based surveillance systems.
The Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department will receive 22 mobile investigation vehicles and modern forensic equipment at a cost of Rs 22.87 crore to strengthen its digital investigation capabilities.
The modernisation programme also provides Rs 11.59 crore for centralised monitoring facilities covering 46 cybercrime police stations and 877 police stations across the state.
The planned spending spans a range of policing requirements, from routine patrols and emergency response to specialised operations, bomb disposal and digital investigations, forming part of Tamil Nadu's broader effort to modernise its police infrastructure with advanced equipment and technology.
