Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has begun a three-day official visit to Singapore from October 9 to 11, during which she will meet the country's top leadership and senior business executives.
As part of her visit, Sitharaman will meet Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, according to an official statement.
The discussions are expected to focus on advancing the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and implementing outcomes of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR). Key areas of engagement include trade and investment, digital financial connectivity, capital markets, taxation, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, skill development and aviation.
The Finance Minister is also scheduled to interact with prominent Singaporean and international investors through a roundtable with hedge fund and portfolio fund managers, alongside a series of government-to-business meetings. These engagements will provide a platform to discuss India's economic growth, investment opportunities and developments in the global financial landscape.
Sitharaman will hold separate meetings with senior executives and representatives of major international financial institutions, investment firms and healthcare companies.
The list of organisations includes the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC), Temasek Holdings, DBS Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, British International Investment, IHH Healthcare, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, B Capital and HPS Investment Partners.
She is also scheduled to engage with representatives of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, Mitsui & Co. and TPG, among other business and investment leaders.
The visit is expected to explore opportunities to channel greater Singaporean investment into India through platforms such as the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City). These institutions could provide avenues for Singapore-based investors to participate in Indian projects through investment funds and other financial instruments.
Singapore remains India's largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI). According to the figures cited in the official statement, cumulative FDI inflows from Singapore reached approximately $194.68 billion between April 2000 and March 2026.
Major institutional investors from Singapore, including GIC and Temasek, also maintain substantial investments across various sectors of the Indian economy.
Sitharaman's engagements during the visit are aimed at deepening bilateral economic ties, strengthening financial cooperation and attracting further international capital into India's investment and infrastructure sectors.
