SIT Likely to File Chargesheet in Veeramani POCSO Case Within 10 Days

Investigators are nearing completion of their probe into the first case, which was registered in October 2025. The expected chargesheet comes around a month after Veeramani was arrested on August 29 following a court order directing police to continue the investigation.

A senior police official said the SIT was working to complete the formalities and could submit the chargesheet within a week to 10 days.

At the same time, investigators are examining fresh complaints alleging sexual abuse of minors by Veeramani. Police said a separate chargesheet will be filed in another POCSO case registered on Monday following a complaint by the mother of a minor girl.

The investigation into the newer complaint is being conducted separately from the original case, with the SIT also working to expedite that probe.

The first case was registered on October 7, 2025, after an NGO volunteer approached the Greater Chennai Police Anti-Vice Squad with a pen drive containing a video purportedly showing Veeramani sexually assaulting a minor.

Police later submitted a closure report in February, citing difficulties in identifying the girl seen in the video. The Special POCSO Court rejected the report and ordered further investigation, allowing the case to continue.

On August 29, the Anti-Vice Squad of the Central Crime Branch arrested Veeramani along with M. Shanthi, 60, and her husband, Mahendra Simhan, 63, nearly 11 months after the case was registered.

The three were booked under Sections 7, 8, 15(1) and 21(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

Police also invoked provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act after determining that one of the survivors belonged to a Scheduled Caste community.

Ganesan, 45, a former employee of Veeramani, was later arrested on allegations of possessing the video and failing to report it to the authorities.

All four accused remain in judicial custody.

Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal constituted an all-woman SIT on September 24 to investigate the original case and related matters, including additional complaints received by the authorities.
