Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Tuesday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership over rising air pollution in Punjab, accusing former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking at a press conference, Sirsa alleged that Kejriwal had left Delhi grappling with pollution during his decade in power and had similarly damaged Punjab within five years.

Sirsa claimed that several locations across Punjab were recording extremely high Air Quality Index (AQI) levels, with Bathinda's reading reportedly crossing 1,100.

He cited figures for other locations, including Barnala at 1,244, Talwandi Sabo at 1,036, Malaudh at 960, Abohar at 885, Jalandhar at 690, Ludhiana at 560 and Gurdaspur at 528.

"Just as he left Delhi struggling with pollution for 10 years, he has now created another record in Punjab," Sirsa said, attributing the reported figures to media reports.

Sirsa Blames Punjab Pollution for Delhi’s Air Quality

The minister further alleged that pollution originating in Punjab was contributing to poor air quality in the national capital.

Referring to the possible influence of a western disturbance, Sirsa said weather conditions could also affect pollution levels in Delhi. He sarcastically congratulated Kejriwal for what he described as Punjab's emergence among the country's most polluted states.

Sirsa also accused the AAP leadership of failing to tackle drug abuse in Punjab, alleging that substance abuse had become another major problem under its administration.

Drawing a comparison with Delhi, he claimed that the situation involving drug availability had worsened in Punjab as well.

The allegations come amid concerns over deteriorating air quality in parts of Punjab. However, the AQI figures cited by Sirsa and his claims about the sources of Delhi's pollution require independent verification.
