Model Shraddha Dubey, prime accused in the murder of Shiva Sharma, has reportedly disclosed details of her movements while on the run and admitted that her boyfriend, Amir, helped her evade the police, officials said.
During hours of interrogation, Dubey revealed information about her journey across several locations but remained silent on certain aspects of the investigation. She has since been sent to jail. Investigators suspect that she kept her driver, Danish, with her to prevent him from disclosing information and to facilitate her escape.
According to her statement, Dubey travelled to Kanpur and Agra during her time on the run. On October 18, she reportedly approached a hotel in Kanpur to book a room but left after staff asked her to provide identification documents.
Investigators believe she was concerned that her photograph could circulate widely following the murder case and that hotel employees might recognise her and alert the police. She subsequently hired a car and travelled to Nagpur without checking into the hotel.
Dubey allegedly evaded arrest for 11 days by staying at smaller hotels and lounges where identification requirements were reportedly less stringent. Despite her preference for large, luxury hotels, she is believed to have changed her accommodation choices to avoid revealing her identity.
She also travelled to Rae Bareli but was unable to reach her home. Authorities subsequently issued a lookout circular amid concerns that she might attempt to leave the country.
During questioning, Dubey reportedly told investigators that Amir had been accompanying her since Lucknow and had helped her enter Nepal through Bahraich. Police are now likely to include his name in the First Information Report (FIR), while preparations are reportedly underway to announce a reward for information leading to his arrest.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) said investigators were identifying individuals suspected of helping Dubey and other accused evade arrest. Officials warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found assisting them.
Investigators also suspect that Dubey remained in contact with several people during her travels and may have received continuous guidance that helped her avoid detection. The DCP personally questioned her for several hours. During the interrogation, she reportedly avoided naming individuals and repeatedly complained of difficulty breathing and speaking.
The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), working alongside Lucknow Police, arrested Dubey in Nagpur, officials said on Tuesday.
She had been absconding since October 9, when Sharma allegedly fell from the balcony of an apartment in Lucknow's Hazratganj area. His death was initially treated as an accidental fall. However, the case later took a suspected murder turn after his family alleged that he had been assaulted and tortured before being thrown from the building.
