President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat in New Delhi on Friday, marking the 157th birth anniversary.

President Murmu visited the memorial early in the day and paid her respects to Gandhi. In a message marking Gandhi Jayanti, she recalled his emphasis on peace, non-violence, empathy and the welfare of all sections of society.

Murmu said Gandhi's principles continue to hold relevance amid conflicts and wars in different parts of the world. She also linked his philosophy of inclusive development with India's efforts to achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

The President said the principles of *Sarvodaya*, centred on the welfare and upliftment of all, remain relevant to the country's development journey. She called for citizens to contribute through ethical conduct and active participation towards building an empowered and self-reliant India.

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also visited Raj Ghat and paid his respects to Gandhi on his birth anniversary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi separately paid floral tributes at the memorial, remembering Gandhi and his contribution to India's history and public life.

Gandhi Jayanti is observed every year on October 2 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. His philosophy of truth and non-violence became central to India's freedom struggle and continues to be associated with movements for peace and social welfare around the world.
