Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Baramati on November 3 to inaugurate the newly developed 'Prerna Sthal' at Vidya Pratishthan and unveil a four-tonne statue of Gautam Buddha, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar said.
Pawar, who heads the educational trust, said the Prime Minister's visit had been rescheduled from October 24 following an update from the Prime Minister's Office. Modi is expected to arrive at Baramati airport at around 10 a.m. before proceeding to the Vidya Pratishthan campus.
The Prerna Sthal, located at the campus's Nakshatra Garden, features a nine-foot-tall statue of Gautam Buddha weighing around four tonnes. The surrounding area will also display paintings of prominent social reformers, leaders and historical figures associated with Maharashtra and India.
According to Pawar, the exhibits will include depictions of Ahilyabai Holkar, Savitribai Phule, Sayajirao Gaekwad, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, Annabhau Sathe, Yashwantrao Chavan and Sharadabai Pawar.
Pawar said Modi will also visit a newly established artificial intelligence centre at Vidya Pratishthan, where he is expected to interact with students working on AI initiatives and youth-led startups. Reports said around 640 students are currently enrolled at the centre.
The main programme is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. and is expected to include addresses by Vidya Pratishthan Vice President Pravin Prabhune, Sharad Pawar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Prime Minister Modi. The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave for his next engagement around 12:10 p.m., Pawar said.
Pawar said invitations have been extended to Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, MPs Supriya Sule and Parth Pawar, and several prominent figures from the technology, business, education and scientific sectors.
Among those invited are representatives of Microsoft and Oxford University, Serum Institute of India chief Cyrus Poonawalla, Bharat Forge chairman Baba Kalyani, scientist Anil Kakodkar and Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd chief Vivek Sawant.
The November 3 programme will mark Modi's visit to Baramati for the inauguration of the Prerna Sthal and the unveiling of the Buddha statue, following the revision of his earlier proposed October 24 itinerary.
