Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a 2.62-km forest eco-trail in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on October 31, marking Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, or National Unity Day.

Named ‘Trail of United India’, the attraction has been developed in Limdi village by the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SoUADTGA). The project combines nature-based tourism with exhibits celebrating India’s cultural diversity, wildlife, heritage and spiritual traditions.

The new facility is expected to expand tourism offerings around the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, which has attracted more than three crore visitors since its inauguration.

Five Thematic Zones to Showcase India’s Diversity

The eco-trail features five thematic zones focusing on wildlife and nature, youth, women’s empowerment, heritage and spirituality.

Through curated exhibits and artistic sculptures, the zones aim to highlight India’s biodiversity, social development, cultural traditions and spiritual heritage.

Located amid forest surroundings, the trail is designed to offer visitors an opportunity to experience nature while learning about the country’s diverse cultural and social traditions. It will also promote awareness of biodiversity and the importance of environmental conservation.

Visitor Facilities and Nature Activities

The project includes an entrance area, parking facilities, a ticket booth and an information centre to support visitor access and navigation.

Other amenities include a multipurpose gazebo, bio-toilets, drinking water points, a bamboo watchtower, directional and informational signboards, stone seating areas and trail maps.

Visitors will be able to explore the route through walking tours and trekking, while wildlife observation and environmental learning are also intended to form part of the experience.

The facilities have been planned to make the forest route more accessible and provide visitors with opportunities to explore its different sections.

Tourism and Local Livelihoods

The ‘Trail of United India’ is expected to create additional tourism-related opportunities and support local employment and livelihoods in the surrounding region.

The project forms part of wider efforts to expand the range of attractions around Ekta Nagar, the Statue of Unity and the Sardar Sarovar area. By adding a forest-based experience to the existing destinations, the new trail aims to encourage visitors to extend their stays in the region.

Its inauguration on October 31 coincides with Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, observed annually to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The new attraction combines the natural environment with exhibits centred on India’s heritage and the theme of national unity.
