A zonal commander of the banned People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) and three of his associates have been arrested in Jharkhand's Gumla district, with police recovering arms and other weapons during the operation.

Police made the arrests in the Kamdara police station area after intelligence inputs suggested PLFI members were planning a criminal operation, police officials said on Friday.

According to police, information was received on Thursday night that members of the extremist outfit were preparing to carry out a major criminal act in the area. A special team was subsequently formed, and raids were conducted at identified locations.

During the operation, security personnel apprehended Vishram Kongadi, identified as the outfit's zonal commander, along with three associates.

Police believe Kongadi was overseeing PLFI activities across Gumla, Khunti and Simdega districts. Several criminal cases have reportedly been registered against him, although officials have not disclosed the exact number or details of the cases.

Investigators are questioning the four arrested men to establish the nature of the alleged operation they were planning and gather information about the outfit's activities and network in the region.

The investigation will also focus on identifying other individuals linked to the group and determining whether additional arrests may follow.

Details regarding the number and type of weapons recovered during the raids have not yet been officially disclosed. A detailed statement from Gumla Police was also awaited at the time of reporting.

PLFI is a banned outfit that emerged as a splinter group of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and has operated primarily in Jharkhand.
