A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Patna for allegedly misbehaving with and getting into a scuffle with female police personnel during a patrol, police said.
The accused, identified as Pradeep Kumar, is a resident of the Ramkrishna Nagar area of the Bihar capital.
According to police, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday near the Khemnichak-Subhashnagar intersection, which falls under the jurisdiction of Ramkrishna Nagar police station.
A team of female police personnel was conducting a patrol in the area when they reportedly noticed three youths behaving suspiciously and stopped them for questioning.
Police alleged that during the interaction, one of the youths misbehaved with the officers and became involved in a scuffle. When the police team attempted to detain the three men, all three allegedly fled from the spot.
An FIR was subsequently registered against the three unidentified suspects under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Ramkrishna Nagar police station.
Investigators launched efforts to identify those involved. Police said Kumar was traced with the help of CCTV footage and local intelligence and was subsequently taken into custody.
Searches are continuing at multiple locations to locate the other two suspects, who remain absconding, police said.
Officials said further action will be based on the findings of the investigation and the evidence collected.
The incident has also highlighted Bihar's 'Police Didi' initiative, under which female police personnel are deployed around schools and colleges to address complaints involving harassment, stalking and obscene comments and to improve the safety of women and girls in and around educational institutions.
The initiative was introduced by the Bihar government as part of efforts to create a safer environment for students.
