The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) has cleared 50,815 nominations for the upcoming Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) elections.
According to the SEC, scrutiny of nomination papers found 46,045 nominations valid for 9,829 MPTC seats and 4,770 nominations valid for 659 ZPTC seats.
The elections will be held across the state’s local self-government institutions, with approximately 2.81 crore voters eligible to participate in polls covering 28 Zilla Praja Parishads.
TDP Leads NDA Allies in MPTC Nominations
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has filed 19,760 nominations for MPTC seats, while its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners, the Jana Sena Party (JSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have submitted 4,330 and 1,049 nominations, respectively.
The three ruling alliance partners have yet to finalise a formal seat-sharing arrangement for the elections. Aspirants from all three parties have filed nomination papers, while their leaderships are attempting to reach an understanding to contest the polls jointly.
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has filed 17,726 nominations for MPTC seats, according to the figures provided by the SEC.
For the ZPTC constituencies, the TDP has submitted 1,693 nominations, followed by 587 from the JSP and 227 from the BJP. The YSRCP has fielded 1,445 candidates for these seats.
Nomination Appeals and Withdrawal Schedule
Candidates whose nominations were rejected could file appeals on October 25. Appeals relating to MPTC constituencies were submitted to the concerned Revenue Divisional Officers, while those concerning ZPTC constituencies were handled by the respective District Collectors.
The appellate authorities are scheduled to decide on the appeals on October 26.
October 27 is the final date for candidates to withdraw their nominations. The final list of contestants will be published on the same day.
Polling will take place on November 3 wherever required, while repolling, if necessary, is scheduled for November 4.
The SEC has also announced that vote counting will follow the polling process. However, the date for counting mentioned in the source report requires verification, as it states October 5, which falls before the scheduled November polling.
Polls to Cover Thousands of Local Constituencies
Of the 663 ZPTC constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, elections will be conducted in 659. Similarly, polling is scheduled for 9,829 of the state’s 9,858 MPTC constituencies.
The elections will determine representation in rural local bodies across the state, with the final candidate list expected after the nomination-withdrawal deadline on October 27.
