‘Nothing Is Going to Happen’: Dilip Ghosh Takes Swipe at Mamata Banerjee Ahead of INDIA Bloc Meet

Speaking in Kolkata, Ghosh said the political significance of the meeting was being overstated.

“For the media, the news is only that they are going to Delhi and coming back from Delhi. What is the result? Nothing is going to happen,” he said.

The INDIA bloc meeting is being held at the Constitution Club in New Delhi to discuss the controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and opposition parties' concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission.

The meeting follows discussions among opposition parties on a coordinated response to the SIR exercise, voter-list revisions and other issues concerning the poll panel.

The Congress Working Committee has already adopted a resolution calling for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition parties are expected to discuss their next course of action during the INDIA bloc meeting.

Ghosh also questioned the Congress's criticism of the Election Commission, arguing that the party had previously won elections conducted under the same poll panel.

“Congress ruled for 10 years in between; this same Election Commission made them win. In various states where Congress is in power, they won elections and came to power. So, how did they win there?” Ghosh said.

He argued that the Election Commission had remained the same while the Congress's electoral fortunes had changed.

“The Election Commission remains the same. Therefore, a streak of losses has begun. The party president himself has lost, so how will the party win?” he added.

Ghosh also defended the electoral-roll revision exercise and rejected opposition objections over the verification and deletion of voter names.

“The false voters here have been separated through the SIR process, those who are not citizens of the country or do not have documents. So, crying over them is of no use,” he said.

The remarks came as opposition parties continue to raise concerns over the SIR process and seek greater clarity on the removal and verification of names from electoral rolls. The INDIA bloc meeting is expected to address these concerns and consider a coordinated political response.
