BJP National President Nitin Nabin will lead a foot march titled ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk on Wednesday, as the Bharatiya Janata Party steps up its campaign amid the Opposition’s protests.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, MPs and other senior party leaders are also expected to participate in the march.
The BJP has planned similar foot marches across the country on Wednesday, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states expected to take part in programmes in their respective regions.
BJP Plans Nationwide Outreach
The nationwide campaign is intended to mobilise BJP workers and supporters while presenting the party’s position on the ongoing electoral roll revision exercise.
The initiative comes amid a political dispute over the SIR, with Opposition parties alleging irregularities in the process and raising questions about the functioning of the Election Commission of India. The BJP’s planned marches are part of its response to the Opposition’s campaign.
The party is also preparing a month-long counter-campaign beginning November 1, featuring coordinated padyatras across the country. Senior BJP leaders, Union Ministers and chief ministers of BJP-governed states are expected to participate in the planned outreach.
BJP Campaign Ahead of INDIA Bloc Rally
The march in Chandni Chowk comes ahead of the INDIA bloc’s proposed rally in Delhi on November 1.
The Opposition alliance has announced a ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally at Ramlila Maidan to protest against alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise.
The INDIA bloc has also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing electoral authorities of failing to address its concerns over alleged “vote chori”.
The BJP’s mobilisation is expected to provide a counterpoint to the Opposition’s planned gathering, with both sides seeking to rally supporters around their respective positions on electoral transparency and democracy.
Police Clearance Issued for Delhi Event
Delhi Police has issued a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) covering security and traffic coordination for the event from October 25 to November 3.
The Chandni Chowk march forms part of the BJP’s wider effort to organise coordinated political outreach across the country as the dispute over the electoral roll revision process continues.
