African-American singer Mary Millben praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years in public office, calling him a "shining beacon of the Indian dream" and urging Indians to set aside political differences.
In a video message, Millben addressed Indians in the country and communities worldwide, commending Modi's record of public service and leadership.
She said Modi's journey in public life had inspired people across generations and encouraged Indians to pursue ambitious goals. Millben also thanked the Prime Minister for what she described as efforts to ensure that different sections of society, including soldiers, farmers, women, senior citizens, young people and children, receive support and recognition.
Millben further described Modi as a global leader working towards what she called a healthier, more prosperous and equal world.
Acknowledging that India, like other countries, faces its own challenges, she said the occasion should be used to bring people together rather than deepen political divisions. She specifically urged Indians to put aside their affiliations with the BJP and Congress and unite in celebrating the country.
Millben also highlighted India's democratic freedoms and economic opportunities, while praising Modi's focus on empowering younger generations.
She concluded her message by offering prayers and blessings for Modi and thanking him for 25 years of public service.
Modi entered elected executive office on October 7, 2001, when he became Chief Minister of Gujarat. He served as the state's Chief Minister until 2014, when the BJP won the Lok Sabha elections and he became Prime Minister.
