Liechtenstein’s Hereditary Prince Alois received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday, with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcoming him.
Prince Alois arrived in the national capital on Monday from Vadodara, Gujarat. Union Minister of State Jayant Singh received him at the airport.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries.
In a post on X, the ministry described the visit as an opportunity to open a new chapter in India-Liechtenstein engagement.
Jayant Singh also welcomed the visiting dignitary, saying he looked forward to strengthening the friendly relationship between the two countries and advancing shared interests through greater cooperation. He referred to his earlier engagement with Prince Alois at Davos.
Meetings with Modi, Murmu and Jaishankar on Agenda
Prince Alois is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House on Tuesday. The discussions are expected to cover cooperation in trade and investment, science and technology, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges, alongside regional and global developments.
The visiting prince will also pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary are also scheduled to call on Prince Alois during the visit.
Later on Tuesday, he is expected to meet President Murmu, who will host an official banquet in his honour.
Second Visit to India in 2026
Prince Alois began his State Visit in Mumbai at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. He is accompanied by his wife, Princess Sofia, along with a high-level official and business delegation that includes senior industry representatives.
The visit marks his second trip to India in 2026. He had travelled to New Delhi in February to attend the AI Impact Summit and had previously visited India in 2010 and 2018.
Trade Agreement Provides Fresh Momentum
The MEA said the visit comes amid expanding economic engagement between India and Liechtenstein, particularly following the operationalisation of the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement in 2025.
The agreement provides a framework for strengthening economic ties between India and EFTA members, including Liechtenstein.
According to the ministry, the visit offers an opportunity to deepen existing relations and develop partnerships in additional areas of mutual interest.
